In the discussion, Prof. Lo firstly welcomed ZSHK for joining HKBMIA, indicated that ZSHK was formed by national elites from Centre for Drug Safety Evaluation and Research of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica under Chinese Academy of Sciences, and such settlement has filled up Hong Kong’s gap in GLP area. Prof. Lo hoped that not only could ZSHK introduce the GLP operating mode from Chinese Academy of Science to Hong Kong, but also be able to fully utilize Hong Kong’s international advantage such as convenient financial flow and talent flow, cultural fusion and freedom of information etc., as well as benefits of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy to build an international preclinical service platform which serve safety evaluation as core value.

Prof. Yuk Lam LO, BBS
 

      Professor Lo has extensive experience in biotechnology industry, corporate management, academic research and community service.
      Currently Professor Lo is serving as the Founding President of HK Bio-Med Innotech Association. He is also the Honorary Founding Chairman of Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization.
      In the educational area, Professor Lo has been elected an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also the Honorary Professor of several universities in China.
      Professor Lo was heavily involved in several committees of the HKSAR Government. He had been served as the Chairman of the Advisory Council for Food Safety of the Food and Health Bureau HKSAR, Director of the Hong Kong Applied R&D Fund Co. Ltd., Chairman of the Biotechnology Committee of the Hong Kong Industry & Technology Development Council, and Chairman of Biotechnology Projects Vetting Committee of the Innovation and Technology Fund, HKSAR.
      In Mainland China, Professor Lo is a member of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Jilin Province. He was also a consultant of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of China. In recognition of his leadership in the community and dedication to his field, Professor Lo has received many awards, such as the “Pericles International Prize” in 2019. He is the second Asian and the first person from Hong Kong to be awarded the Prize since it was founded in 1986. In 2020, Professor Lo was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star from the HKSAR government for his outstanding services over the past decades.

      About ZSHK Laboratories Limited
     ZSHK (Hong Kong) is a drug safety testing center jointly established by ZSHK Laboratories Limited and Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. It is the first facility in Hong Kong that meets GLP standards and can provide toxicology, genotoxicity, toxicokinetics, safety pharmacology, reproductive toxicology, pharmacokinetics (ADME) and other preclinical services. It is expected to be put into operation in early 2022.
